Time to Take A Stand - Talk to Me!

Sunday August 12, 2007
Finding accurate information about birth control is not as easy as it may seem. If President Bush had it his way, this information would not be available at all. Therefore, it’s is no surprise that the feud raging between the nation’s scientific community and the Bush administration is at an all time high. According to Donald Kennedy, editor in chief of Science magazine and a former FDA chief, "the science community now recognizes that this administration completely puts its political cart before the scientific horse….We've seen it with one issue after another."

The latest issue fueling this hostility is former surgeon general (2002-2006) Richard Carmona’s testimony before a House committee last month where he “lashed out” at his former colleagues. To the surprise of many, Carmona revealed that political appointees in the Department of Health and Human Services prohibited him from speaking out on scientific evidence tied to embryonic stem cell research, contraception and sex education (as reported in USA Today).

Well, the Bush Administration may not want truthful medical information about birth control to be explained to the US public, but luckily for you, I do! Please let me know what you type of information you would like to know more about. Do you have any specific birth control questions? Are you looking to know more about birth control myths?
