World Contraception Day 2008

Saturday September 20, 2008
September 26 will mark the second annual World Contraception Day – a worldwide campaign aiming to raise awareness of contraception, the need to reduce the high levels of unplanned pregnancy and to improve the level of education regarding reproductive and sexual health.

World Contraception Day attempts to deliver the message: “It’s Your Life.” The specific theme for 2008 is, “Your life, your body, your choice” - a message aimed at young people to encourage them to make informed choices about parenthood at a time that is right for them.

Nadia Ramsarran, a member of one of the local organizing committees for World Contraception Day, explains, “there is a large educational need among young people between 15 and 25 years, and we believe it is important to educate these young people at this stage of their lives as their sexual and reproductive behaviors will have implications for their lives."

Last year, Hollywood actress Mischa Barton presented the launch of this first-ever international contraception awareness campaign. This year, the campaign is thrilled to have Kelly Osbourne as the global ambassador for World Contraception Day 2008.
