Don't Let the Summer Heat Sizzle Your Birth Control Effectiveness

Tuesday June 16, 2009
Now that summer is upon us, it is extra important that you pay attention to how to properly store your birth control. Make sure to read package inserts carefully to determine what a safe storage temperature is. Most birth control methods are not susceptible to the heat. In fact, contrary to popular belief, female condoms do not become damaged in high temperatures or humidity, so they typically do not require special storage conditions. On the other hand, take special caution with male condoms as the effectiveness of this birth control method could be compromised due to the higher summer temperatures.
