Extend Your Cycle with Seasonique!

Tuesday July 7, 2009

Are you one of the many women out there who would just love it if your “monthly visitor” left you alone? Well, extended-cycle birth control pills, like Seasonique, may be an attractive option for you. Seasonique is taken everyday for 77 days. This means that you will only get your period about once every 3 months (basically, only 4 times a year)! Seasonique works just like a traditional birth control pill and is just as safe and effective. Seasonique Photo © 2008 Dawn Stacey

I just heard an advertisement for Seasonique and want to alert consumers and their physicians about
the dangers of this drug for people who may have Hemochromatosis which is a build up of iron in your blood absorbing into your organs and causing death if not treated. Men experience symptoms at a younger age because women “menstrate”. If you stop menstrating for convenience at a young age and are unlucky enough to have this genetic problem, you will have higher ferritin levels at a younger age and risk liver cancer, heart disease, etc. I just wish physicians would test women’s ferritin levels before beginning something like this.
