Diaphragms and Cervical Caps

The diaphragm is a latex or silicone, dome-shaped cup with a flexible rim. It is inserted in the vagina and becomes a barrier that covers the cervix. It is put in place before intercourse and is left in for 6-8 hours after ejaculation. The diaphragm must be used with spermicide. A cervical cap is also a barrier birth control device and is fitted by your doctor. It is similar to the diaphragm (only smaller). The Femcap and Lea's Shield are two types of cervical caps.
