Combination Birth Control Pills

Combination birth control pills are oral contraceptives that combine natural or synthetic estrogen and progestin. These types of birth control pills can further be broken down into three categories: monophasic, biphasic, or triphasic. With so many combination birth control pills available, how do you know which is the best one for you? Some brands of combination pills include Lybrel, Femcon Fe, Seasonale, Yaz, Loestrin, Tricyclen, Seasonique, and Yazmin. Eight progestin types are used in the pill. Knowing the differences between the progestins and about estrogenic effects, androgenic effects, and progestational selectivity, can help minimize side effects.
