What is Your Tubal Ligation Status?

Considering, not yet done.

Obstacles in Your Tubal Decision

I have an upcoming appointment with my ob/gyn doctor to discuss further matters and to schedule a surgery date. I'm not afraid of undergoing surgery as I have already had 3 C-sections.

The best way to avoid conflict is to be honest with yourself. I wrote down the list of reasons why I wanted a tubal ligation and a list of reasons why I would not. The list of reasons for wanting one was longer and a lot more realistic than the reasons for not wanting one. I tried to leave my emotions out of it as much as possible (and that's already easy for me to do).

If I decided to have another child later, I would want 2 as I would want them to be close in age. Again, that included more financial factors as well as being able to give all 5 of them the attention they deserve. Not to mention, I would have to put things off such as a career, or anything I may have planned on doing to make it beneficial to the situation.

What I'd Do Differently

  • Every birth control method I tried thus far (both chemical and non-chemical) failed me or wasn't suitable for me. And I needed something I could rely on, something permanent since nothing temporary was helping. I could have had a tubal ligation done during my 3rd C-section procedure but I wasn't sure if I was done having children. I could have avoided 2 unwanted pregnancies afterwords and the pain I went through had I decided to get it done then and there.

What Were/Are Some of the Factors in Your Decision?

I want to focus on being financially stable, have a house, retirement plan, and everything by the time I'm 30-33. I want to be able to give my 3 children the undivided attention and support that they need. Also, want to get my body back in shape. My family feels complete.

What was Most Helpful in Making Your Tubal Decision?

Looking at the bigger picture, setting aside emotions, and thinking rationally about the idea of having it done. My reasons of not wanting one would only be if I changed my mind. Sometimes it's about learning to be satisfied with what you have, esp if it might be in everyone's best interest.

How Did You Know It Was “Time” for Permanent Measures?

I've always wanted to have children at a young age and have them close in age. I have 3 and I'm 26; didn't want any more after 28. It didn't make sense to have the 3rd and last child 4 years apart. I didn't want to go through another painful abortion (due to ectopic pregnancy, failure of IUD).

Did You Have One Single Deciding Factor?

No, there are multiple factors as you can see above that made me come to my conclusion. Mainly, this was my decision and no one else's.
