What is Your Tubal Ligation Status?

I had my tubes laparoscopic tied after the birth of my 4th child. I am currently 38 and my kids range from 17-3 months. I was diagnosed with graves disease 8 yrs ago and was told getting pregnant would be difficult but I was okay with that since at the time I had already had 2 kids and I didnt want any kids in my 30's. But I had a baby when I was 35 and then another at 37. The last 2 prompted me to get my tubes tied. Since I do not wish to have any more children. I finally got my son after having 3 girls so my family is now complete. I thought about doing it 10 years ago but I'm glad I waited until now.

Obstacles in Your Tubal Decision

The only thing that scared me was the thought of them cutting into me while I was out. It is a scary thought knowing you will be sleeping and will not be able to control what goes on around you. But my experience was not bad at all. I dont remember being put under, I remember waking up. I wasn't in pain and the next day I went about my daily routine. I only took 1 Motrin the first night. I would say just breath and relax, it will be okay.

What I'd Do Differently

  • Nothing. My sister had hers tied when she was 26 and now she wants another baby. I am at the right age 38 and I am glad I waited. I would of missed out on having my son if I had done it earlier. So I'm glad I waited until 2010.

What Were/Are Some of the Factors in Your Decision?

Rising costs and taking birth control. I didn't want to be on the pill or have to take a shot. I wanted something permanent and easy.
