No paragard for me!
- My Paraguard experience was awful. So I got the Mirena instead. Though I was very sensitive to the hormones in the depo- and the ring, the Mirena really has no effect on me. Except for the cramping and pressure the first few days, it is great so far (been only a week though). Insertion was pretty bad for me though, but only for a minute or so and it was over. Kept thinking "I'd rather go through this than have a baby", lol. Maybe I'm just not as strong as some.

Paragard Choice
- I just had the paragard inserted today. I have been on birth control and my body does NOT tolerate hormones, so for awhile I used a diaphragm. I had constant bladder and yeast infections (probably from the spermicides). I am really excited about the paragard being hormone free. It hurt getting it put in, but so worth it. And I feel like I am not messing with my body's natural defenses as much as hormone controlled birth control. I look forward to when this pain goes away and I don't have to worry about birth control anymore. We had been using anal as a birth control, but got really tired of the prep time.

Very Happy
- I've had Mirena for almost a month and I love it. It didn't hurt when it was inserted (last vaginal birth in 2001, c-section 3 months ago) and I'm glad I have a long term birth control that I don't have to think about.

Mirena IUD
- I had the Mirena IUD inserted 2.5 years ago and I think it's great. Never liked the pill. I'm 34, married, no kids. I did need to have it put in under anesthetic at the hospital because the cervical dialation pills didn't work at the OBGYN's office - no previous childbirth meant my cervix was too narrow and insertion would've been very uncomfortable. Other than that, one afternoon at the hospital to me was well worth 5 years of worry free birth control.

Going in for second Mirena
- My 5 years with a Mirena IUD will be up in 2 months, so I will be having it replaced in a couple of weeks. I have had a great experience with the Mirena IUD. I have 2 kids, and am 99.9999% sure my family is complete, but....as a military spouse I have to consider the unexpected. The Dr. recommended non-permanent bc rather than surgery for my situation. I didn't want any more hormones, but the Dr. said the Mirena has very low levels and may help with cramps. I am VERY happy she suggested considering the Mirena IUD. I am a little nervous about re-insertion, as I remember the cramping after the first one. It only lasted a day, and this time I will definitely take some Motrin beforehand. But my periods were reduced to spotting within 4 months and disappeared altogether by 8 months (and no more cycle-related cramps!) I've had no complications or side effects, and am looking forward to another 5 years worry free with the option of reversibility.

undecided
- I am 34 years old, married and do not want children. I went off bc pills 2 years ago and my life took a 180 degree turn for the better. I've never felt better. But lately I've been worried sick about pregnancy and often chose not to have sex just to eliminate the worry. We use condoms but they've torn a few times and sex with a condom is not very enjoyable for me. I don't ever want to use hormones as my bc method again and with the helpful words from all of you, I think I've decided on the ParaGard Copper UID. Thanks so much for your input ladies. I will let everyone know how it goes if I decide to get it.

I just got a Mirena IUD
- I recently chose to switch birth control methods from the pill to an IUD. I have been on various birth control pills for the last 6 years. Recently I found out that I had become pregnant. This came as a shock to me and I immediately went in to see my OBGYN. She told me that not only was I pregnant but that it was a Molar pregnancy. This form of pregnancy is really abnormal and I needed to immediately have an abortion preformed. I chose to switch to Mirena as soon after the abortion as was medically safe. I went in this morning to have the Mirena placed, and I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly my cramps calmed down. The actual procedure had some discomfort but it wasn't as painful as I had been expecting. It has been 2 hours now and I feel fine. I am experiencing slight cramping but nothing a women who has had period cramps can't handle. I am very happy with my decision at this point and my recovery immediately after insertion was quick and relatively pain free.

Male response! Copper IUD
- I'm not a girl but have a girlfriend, so I thought it would be nice to have the response of the other side of the table! We did thorough research and decided that copper IUD is the BEST Birth Control method since: 1. hormones disturb the peace of body physiologically 2. failure rate is amazingly LOW: less than 6 in 1000 (3 times better than "best case" use of condom and 30 times better than "usual case") 3. it's easily REVERSIBLE 4. It works for 10 years 5. It was done for free and "pain-free" in our university's medical center. and most importantly (on my part) 6. There is an amazing SEXY feel to it which I think is because of the comfort felt during intercourse. All of these reasons is why my partner (with my blessing) chose the ParaGard Copper IUD.

So far i love ParaGard!
- I am 25 and have a 4 year old. I do not want anymore children right now. I dont like the way hormonal bc makes me feel so i had the paragard put in last week. The placement was like a papsmear alittle pressure with a small pinch took no longer then 5 min... i had a little backache for 2 days - nothing severe (I took some ibprofin to help, went to work the next day- I am a hairdresser so i was on my feet all day)... had alittle light spotting that night. After 2 days that was gone. I had sex on night 5 - turned out to be great(no pain)! Doc said i wont be able to feel the strings because my vaginal canal is longer then my finger length... this makes me alittle worried. I have an checkup in 3 more weeks... guess I'll just wait and see how my periods are going to be! I love it so far!

Just had mirena inserted
- Hi ladies! After pouring over these responses before my appointment, I thought I'd share my experience. Overall, it's not as bad as it's made out to be. Im 20, married, no kids. I took a pill called cytotec before the procedure and didn't have any problems. The procedure hurt just like period cramps..after I felt dizzy, but the pain wasn't intolerable. I suggest taking ibuprofen beforehand as well. Not a bad experience. Good luck!

Love Mirena
- I have had the Mirena inserted in 2008. My doctor prescribed a pill to allow my cervix to dilate and I had to be on my period for the procedure since I haven't had any children yet. I took some pain killers too just in case. It was all done within 5 minutes and I only had minor cramping and discomfort for a day. Its been bliss since. No periods and no worries. I'm sold.
